VENTURES AFRICA – As Tanzania’s air travel market become more competitive with the launch of Fastjet – a low cost airline operator; Precision Air Services (PW) announced that it has recorded 13 percent growth in passenger numbers between April 2012 and January 2013. The Airline carried a total number of 750,762 passengers during the period compared to 663,636 passengers it carried last year at the same period.
Precision Air’s Acting MD & CEO, Allen Sharra declared that the Airline carried 222,654 passengers between November 2012 to January 2013; resulting to a six percent growth compared to the same period last year when it carried just 209,696 passengers.
According to Sharra, “The Tanzania air travel market has become more competitive with the introduction of new airlines. However Precision Air’s performance in terms of passenger uplift has continued to grow impressively despite this increased competition.”
“We have managed to achieve this due to the unmatched services we offer our customers, convenience in destination frequencies of our schedules and our true Tanzanian hospitality enjoyed by passengers travelling by Precision.”
While the total number of passengers carried by the company to date has grown to about a million, PW boss said the airline has been able to grow in number of passengers as a result of its increase in frequencies to various routes and introduction of new ones like Mbeya, which was launched in January this year.
“This penetration in the southern region was received with thumbs up and only a month after its inauguration it became necessary for Precision to review its operations and implement daily flights with only 90-minute travel time,” he said.
Sharra added that “The recent introduction of the evening flights to Mtwara departing Dar es Salaam 1600hrs has provided traffic relief and convenience opportunities to passengers moving to and from the region and moves to 11 frequencies to Mtwara than the previous 7 per week.”
