Mikel Signs New 5 Year Deal At Chelsea

VENTURES AFRICA – Nigerian international and Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi is set to remain at the London club for another five years as he has signed a new fear year extension. The European Champions announced on Wednesday that the 25 year old will be with the Blues till 2017.

Speaking to the club’s website, Mikel expressed satisfaction with his period of stay in West london.

“Chelsea seems like my home now because I have been here for over six years and I enjoy my time here,” he said. “I come into the training ground every day to work and I value my time there. I am happy and want to keep going and win trophies for this club.”

Obi was an integral part of the team that won an unprecedented FA Cup and UEFA Champions League double and he says it was special.

“Last season, to win the Champions League was even more special and I hope these next five years will bring even more success and I can win trophies with the new players we have here.”

“I have basically won everything with Chelsea and those years have been really special for me, winning trophies with big names like Didier Drogba, John Terry and Frank Lampard who have had very long Chelsea careers.”

Obi also insists that despite hitting his peak , there is still room for improvement in his game.

According to the former Oslo of Norway midfielder, “being 25, I think I am now hitting my peak but as a player you want to improve every day and there is still room for that. I want to learn from the players and the manager and I just want to keep going.”

Mikel is reportedly on an 80, 000 pounds a week deal currently but the club did not disclose his new pay package. The Nigerian signed for Chelsea in 2006 for 15 million pounds ($24 million) after a long transfer saga which saw him reportedly sign for rivals Manchester United.
