VENTURES AFRICA – Nigeria’s chances of making it to the next Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup received a major boost this week as Globacom, one of the sponsors of the country’s football association has promised to give its support to ensure the country’s football gets to the next level.
This comes after Globacom presented a cheque of 350 million naira about $2.3 million to the Nigeria Football Federation as part of the 5-year deal signed with the federation last year.
At the presentation ceremony which took place at the NFF office Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Niyi Adewunmi who represented Globacom’s Billionaire CEO Mike Adenuga stated that the company will ensure that “Nigeria qualifies for the next Africa Cup of Nations, the World Cup and indeed all the other major football events.”
Adewumni added that the telecom giant was ready “to support you all through as we are very happy to support the development of Nigerian football. Globacom believes that this is a partnership that works and must continue to deliver value to the delight of all Nigerians.”
Also speaking at the occasion, President of the NFF Aminu Maigari expressed his gratitude to Globacom and pledged the football house’s commitment to ensure the country the country qualifies for major tournaments.

Globacom and NFF signed a five-year sponsorship agreement package last year which sees the telecom giant sponsoring the national football teams and the Federation Cup from till 2016. This latest payment is the second installation.
