VENTURES AFRICA – Ghana’s 2012 first half earnings from the minerals sector climbed 19 percent to $2.76 billion against the previous year, the CEO of Ghana’s Chamber of Mines, Toni Aubynn said.

International news agency, Reuters quoted Aubynn as saying: “The impressive first half performance was largely on the back of the performance of mineral revenue from gold and bauxite, despite the dip in revenue from diamond and manganese.”

The official statement from the chamber also said Ghana recorded a 6 percent increase in gold production during the period, partly due to an increase in production from Perseus Mining Ghana Ltd and Adamus Resources.

Ghana, which is Africa’s second-largest gold miner behind South Africa, has been a world leader in gold exportation since the 16th century.
